Equestrian Lifestyle

When people think about the Dominican Republic, many people think of golf courses, water sports, fishing, eco-tourism and beautiful beaches. However, most people are unaware of the many different equestrian lifestyles in the Dominican Republic. When you think about it, where else in the Caribbean can you buy an ocean-front ranch? Where else can you enjoy the equestrian lifestyle all year-round where average temperatures are fresh and enjoyable? Where else in the Caribbean can you ride over extensive mountain trails with breath-taking ocean views, or endless secluded beaches with spectacular vistas? In answer to all the above: many people are beginning to realize that the Dominican Republic is an undiscovered equestrian gem.

The Dominican Republic has had a farm and ranch economy for centuries. However, many of these generational families have children who are no longer interested in the agrarian lifestyle. As such, many of these Caribbean farms and ranches are available for sale. In addition, many resort and residential communities have equestrian centers as part of the community amenities. The Equestrian Lifestyle within each of our featured communities is described in more detail below.

Cabarete Equestrian Lifestyle

  • Sea Horse Ranch – This exclusive gated community is located between Cabarete and Sosua. It was started many years ago, but it is such a grand development that it still has building lots available. The original concept had lots sub-divided into 1/2 to 1 acre building sites with riding trails leading from the equestrian center to the ocean.  This is a world-class, full-service Equestrian Center. The stables contain 25 spacious stalls and multiple wash-down areas. There are also acres and acres of outside pasture land for horses who are kept outside. There is a 20-meter indoor riding area and two large outdoor training areas. The larger one can be used for world-class competition events.

  • Haciendas el Choco – This gated community was once a 200 acre ranch. It is situated beside the El Choco National Park that spans millions of square meters of lush mountainside for great horseback riding. Lot sizes in this community average 2 acres. There is no direct access to the ocean, but the mountain views are spectacular. There are eight stalls at the stable near entry of this beautiful gated community, but it would not be considered a full-service equestrian center.

  • Hacienda del Caballos – Hacienda del Caballos is in the rolling hills above Sosua, just past Haciendas el Choco. This is a full-service equestrian center with 40 stalls and 7 paddocks for daily turn-out. There a “Pista Grande” for training and competition events, and in addition, two covered training areas: one a rectangular “Pista Techada” and the other a circular “Picadero”. There is also a training area for Paso Fino horses.

  • Wellington Carribe – This equestrian community will comprise individual ranch sites spread throughout 1,000 acres of tropical land that ranges from flat pastures to rolling hills with ocean views. Riding trails will lace throughout the community and provide equestrian access to all venues and amenities. Some riding trails will have extensions to cross-country jumps that will lead back to the more tranquil riding trails. The riding trails will also be used by the security staff that will be on horse back 24 hours a day. The Master Plan is still in the design phase, and thus, reservations will allow ranch parcels to be designed “to suit”. Depending on location, 5-acre ranch sites will range from $100,000 to $1 Million.

  • Ranchos el Puerto – This Equestrian Community will be ocean-front in Cabrera on the north coast of the Dominican Republic. It comprises 140,000 square meters of land which is approximately 35 acres. Each ranch site will be approximately 5 acres, with  an additional 5 acres set aside for a community equestrian center. The remainder of the land is allocated to roads and common area grounds. In both of these planned developments, investor positions are still available on the development side

La Romana Equestrian Lifestyle

  • Casa de Campo – This exclusive resort community is located in La Romana on the southeast coast of the Dominican Republic. Without compromising the feeling of exclusivity, it has been developed into one of the most complete resorts in the region. Dozens of horses fill the stables at Casa de Campo´s Equestrian Center, which makes finding the proper pony as easy as a trail ride! Guests and residents can enjoy guided trail rides throughout the Villas Polo. Expert staffing is on hand for lessons in English or Western-style riding and jumping. Guests of Casa de Campo may also request instruction in grooming techniques or rodeo stunts. If you´re seeking the thrill of polo, the Casa de Campo facilities are among the best in the Caribbean! Consisting of three playing fields, one practice field and the largest string of polo ponies under a single brand in the world, there is no place better to enjoy this rigorous and engaging sport.

Punta Cana Equestrian Lifestyle

  • Cap Cana – The Master Plan for the Los Establos Equestrian Center in Cap Cana has lots ranging from four to almost eight acres. This is a complex connected by trails, parks and outdoor gardens with multiple recreational areas. The Equestrian Amenities will include: an indoor arena for events such as Paso Fino exhibitions, indoor-polo, stadium jumping, dressage and reining. There will also be five outdoor arenas for multiple events, all with international certifications. If that is not enough, there are two polo fields and areas for eventing competitions, riding trails, and endurance and cross-country riding. This is all topped off with a professional training program and veterinary clinic. The stables will also have 24 hour full services provided.

  • Puntacana Resort & Club – In addition to great golf courses, Puntacana Resort & Club facilities include the La Cana Beach Club, Tennis Center, Playa Blanca Beach Club, Aquatic Center, world class restaurants, 1500 acre ecological park, horseback riding center, and miles of private beaches.
